At Northport Highlands Assisted Living, we believe that the best communities are the ones where wisdom and wonder walk hand in hand. One of the most meaningful parts of life here isn’t just the care we provide – it’s the connections we nurture across generations.
Whether it’s a local school visit, a story hour with grandkids, or simply sharing a laugh with a younger volunteer, our residents light up when they get the chance to engage with younger people. These moments aren’t just sweet – they’re powerful.
Why Intergenerational Moments Matter:
- For Our Residents: Conversations with young people bring joy, purpose, and a fresh perspective. Sharing life stories and advice is a reminder that their voices still matter – and are being heard.
- For the Young: In an age of screens and short attention spans, spending time with elders teaches patience, empathy, and the importance of listening.
- For Our Community: These experiences build bridges of respect and understanding between generations, creating a more connected Northport.
We’re proud to partner with local schools, youth programs, and family networks to keep these meaningful interactions alive and thriving.
A Recent Highlight:
Last month, the 3rd graders from Suttons Bay Elementary visited our campus for a “Pen Pal Picnic”, a chance for them to meet the residents they’ve been writing to all semester. There were snacks, laughter, and even an impromptu singalong. It was a reminder that simple connections can have lasting impact.
